In-house Real Estate Counsel (Residential Property) – London (Maternity Cover))London, UK | Maternity Cover FTC
Consultant: Liam Taaffe
My client is a specialist residential property portfolio asset manager comprising c. 200,000 leasehold properties across the UK. This newly created opportunity will join an experienced team of In-House Lawyers who provide legal and compliance support across the entire business operation. The majority of this portfolio consists of multi-occupancy blocks of apartments where you’ll advise on residential property and Landlord & Tenant work on a fixed-term maternity cover contract. This is a great opportunity for a residential property lawyer to work in-house with one of the UK’s largest specialist freehold asset management companies and take on a broader in-house legal role including exposure to compliance and other corporate governance and commercial matters, including:
You will review and assess requests from leaseholders, freehold owners, developers, management companies and other third parties for easements, consents, changes of use, commercial alterations and underletting, and other complex or unusual transactions, consents or title variations. In addition, you will review and assess post-completion transactions and other matters agreed upon as part of portfolio acquisitions. You will advise on insurance cover policies for properties in the portfolios and the appointment and oversight of independent managing agents, lawyers and surveyors (amongst others), as well as acting as the freeholders’ point of contact for all leaseholders and other stakeholders across the portfolios. As this role is very broad you will be exposed to commercial law and other general legal matters where you’ll assist with the creation and ongoing maintenance of a suite of template documents, draft company policies and review and advise on company contracts. There will be an element of GDPR obligations including recording and managing data breaches, subject access requests and other data subject rights, staff training, implementing policies and processes.
Must be a UK qualified (England & Wales) Solicitor with a minimum of 3yrs PQE gained in handling non-contentious residential and commercial property matters. Candidates will have experience gained from a reputable residential property law firm with knowledge of Landlord & Tenant legislation, and legal issues relevant to ground rent and residential long leasehold interests. Great flexible working conditions are on offer for the right candidate.
