An amazing opportunity for an In-House Construction Lawyer to join the legal team of a highly admired Mechanical Engineering business based in central London. This business has worked on numerous iconic developments i.e. Google Office, Battersea PowerStation etc, and has an impressive number of projects secured for the next 5 yrs. This newly created role requires an experienced Construction Lawyer to provide practical legal advice on all construction-related matters and generally offer support to the Head of Legal and wider project management teams.

The Role
You will be responsible for drafting and negotiating building contracts, trade contracts, consultant appointments, sub-contracts warranties/third party rights, Parent Company Guarantees, NDAs, and other construction documentation. You will advise on the construction aspects of development and finance agreements, including security documentation, such as bonds and guarantees; agreements for lease; sale and purchase agreements; development agreements and ancillary agreements. A key area of this role requires your advice on construction procurement, including Two-Stage JCT Design & Build and NEC (e.g. ECC). Experience of FIDIC is an advantage.

Part of this role will have a contentious aspect where you will focus on preparing and engaging on dispute resolution processes where you will review, report and advise on contractual risks for all tenders. There is a real commercial (non-legal) feel to this role where you will support the project management team on a wide variety of construction-related issues and documents including dealing with ad-hoc construction-related legal queries.  You support the project management team on a wide variety of construction-related issues and share your legal knowledge to create legal updates and host training sessions for the project management teams.

Candidates must be qualified to practice in England and Wales with a minimum of 4yrs PQE gained in relevant construction projects. Ideally, you will knowledge of drafting standard form contracts including JCT (e.g. D&B, Intermediate, etc) and NEC (e.g. ECC) while the experience of FIDIC is advantageous.  A strong track record of advising on construction contracts, as well as expertise and experience in all types of construction procurement. Must have a natural ability to work unsupervised in a very fast-moving work environment. Applicants with previous In-House experience or secondment would be highly advantageous.
